It's official: Shaboozey made history. His country hit “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” has broken a new record for most weeks atop the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.
On the chart dated October 19, 2024, the song claims the No. 1 spot for an unprecedented 20th week, breaking a record previously performed in 2019 by Billy Ray Cyrus of Lil Nas X with “Old Town Road”.
This is the first time a song has held the No. 1 spot for 20 weeks or more in the history of the Billboard Canadian Hot 100, which began in 2007. “A Bar Song”'s first No. 1 hit the week of May 11, 2024, and has actually spent 26 cumulative weeks on the chart. It was briefly edged out of the top spot by Eminem's “Houdini” and Morgan Wallen and Post Malone's “I Had Some Help,” but otherwise dominated from summer through fall.
With “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” setting the new record, it follows an updated leaderboard for most weeks at No. 1 on the Billboard Canadian Hot 100.

Shaboozey's “A Bar Song (Tipsy)” is also making history on the US Billboard Hot 100, this week tying the record for the second-longest rookie reign at 14 weeks. But the Virginia artist's song first hit No. 1 in Canada and has reigned longer. He recognized that achievement on stage at a concert at Toronto's Danforth Music Hall last month when Billboard Canada presented him with a plaque for his #1 hit. “You did it first!” he he said triumphantly to the Canadian crowd.
In one Bulletin board cover, Shaboozey talks about the whirlwind of the past few months. He's been making music for a decade, but made a breakthrough this year after appearing as a guest star on Beyoncé's Culture Cowboy Carter. Beyoncé and Shaboozey then made history as the first two black artists to reach No. 1 on the Billboard Hot Country Songs back-to-back with “Texas Hold'Em” and “A Bar Song (Tipsy), but “A Bar Song” has surpassed the songs above Cowboy Carter for dominance of the Canadian map.
Lil Nas X's “Old Town Road” is also a country song by a black artist that seamlessly transitions between sounds. Shaboozey's “A Bar Song” pulls from J-Kwon's 2004 rap hit “Tipsy” and unites listeners of different genres in drinking through everyday financial hardships, playing heavy air on a variety of different radio formats in Canada. To put this historic feat into perspective, 20 weeks would also set the record for most weeks at No. 1 on the US Billboard Hot 100, where Lil Nas X still currently reigns at 19 weeks. On this chart, which has been around for 66 years compared to Canada's 17 years, only five songs have held the No. 1 spot for more than 15 weeks.
It's hard to predict if any songs have the power to knock Shaboozey off No. 1 on the Canadian Hot 100 in the near future. Post Malone and Morgan Wallen's “I Had Some Help” continues to hold No. 2 and briefly surpassed Shaboozey this summer. Billie Eilish's 'Birds of a Feather' has stalled at No.3 for several weeks, while Lady Gaga and Bruno Mars' duet 'Die With a Smile' has continued its slow climb into the top 5 and is this week at No. 4. Sabrina Carpenter's 'Espresso' is currently at No. 5 and previously peaked at No. 3.
So how many weeks will Shaboozey hold the No. 1 spot on the Canadian Hot 100? Only time will tell.
