She Drew The Gun returns with new single 'Howl', out today via Submarine Cat Records. 'Howl' is the first new piece of music since 2021 album 'Behave Myself'. She Drew The Gun headed to Margate to work with producer Ash Workman (Christine & the Queens, Metronomy) in her studio on this new single.
'Howl' is the revitalized sound of She Drew The Gun. Starting with a muscular bassline, 'Howl' is a direct, focused and politically charged comeback. She Drew The Gun, also known as Louisa Roach, showcases her lyrical abilities and her countless musical influences. Her love of poetry and wordplay shines through on this direct, lean single that marks the beginning of the next stage in She Drew The Gun's career.
She Drew The Gun talks about 'Howl' –
“The definition of Howl is to utter a loud, deep, mournful cry, and howling has been used across cultures and time periods in a variety of rituals and practices as a way to connect with others and give rise to primal energy, as well as connecting with the spiritual world, honoring ancestors, invoking protection and releasing emotions.
“For me, my howling is what I do to release emotions and connect, howling as an art form, song, poem, makes the now, the present moment, come alive when I share it with those who are present with me. It is also about the astonishing amount of things that led to one's existence, how part of me, the things that make up my body were there at the beginning of time, the atoms, the elements of our bodies were formed in the hearts of long dead people. stars for billions of years. Then there is what all our ancestors experienced, the magic of consciousness, survival, all the dangers that condition us as we are, spirituality, respect for the land, and I see the way life is organized through This historical understanding, how we got to this point, civilizations, feudalism, colonialism, patriarchal power, witch hunts and how they were fundamental in the transition to capitalism, the destruction of indigenous traditions and knowledge, all these stories and Institutions shape who I am today, and I am sorry for the suffering caused in the pursuit of power, but they cannot touch my soul and I have my howl to connect, release and invoke spiritual energy, most powerfully in the ritual of live performance. ”.
