She Drew The Gun, the acclaimed musical act of musician and poet Louisa Roach, have just released a new video for their latest single, 'Howl'. This release marks the first new material since their 2021 album, Behave. Heading to Margate for the recording process, She Drew The Gun teamed up with renowned producer Ash Workman, known for his work with artists such as Christine & the Queens and Metronomy. The result is a track that shows Roach's renewed energy and commitment to their craft. “Howl” opens with an undulating bass line, setting the tone for an immediate and politically charged musical journey. Roach's deft lyricism and varied musical influences are on full display, reflecting her passion for poetry and wordplay.
Speaking of “Howl” Roach reveals: “Howl is defined as uttering a loud, deep mournful cry and howling has been used across cultures and time periods in a variety of rituals and practices as a way of connecting with others and creating primal energy, as and connect with the spirit world, honor the ancestors, invoke protection and release emotions. “To me, howling is the thing I do to release emotions and connect, howling as an art form, a song, a poem , it enlivens the now, the present moment when I share it with those present with me. It's also about the amazing number of things that brought one into existence, how part of me, the things that make up my body, were there at the beginning of time, the atoms, the elements of our bodies were formed in the hearts of long-dead stars for billions of years. Then it's what all our ancestors lived through, the magic of consciousness, the survival, all the dangers that made us the way we are, the spirituality, the respect for the land, and I see the way life is organized through this historical understanding, how we got to this point, civilizations, feudalism, colonialism, patriarchal power, witch hunts and how they contributed to the transition to capitalism , the crushing of indigenous traditions and knowledge, all these stories and institutions shape who I am today, and I mourn the suffering caused in the pursuit of power, but they cannot touch my soul and I have my howl to connect, to release and invoke spiritual energy, more powerfully in the ritual of live performance.”
