Shed Seven have already had an unforgettable year in their 30th anniversary, with their first number one album with 'A Matter of Time', two huge homecoming celebration shows at York's Museum Gardens and a number one vinyl single with the chart of Radio 2. Let's dance'. However, the fun doesn't end there. Not only will Shed Seven release new album of orchestral reworkings 'Liquid Gold' on September 27, they've just announced a major national tour for their 30th anniversary.
On 'Liquid Gold', Shed Seven revisit a selection of hits and favorites live from their back catalog to the enthusiastic accompaniment of a full orchestra. Reimagined by the band in collaboration with arrangers Fiona Brice (Liam Gallagher, Placebo) and Michael Rendall (who worked on both 'A Matter of Time' and 2017's Top 10 return 'Instant Pleasures'), the rich reinvention of the album also benefits from a touch of metal. section and gospel singers.
The album spans the band's career, beginning with 'Speakeasy' and 'Ocean Pie' from their 1994 debut album, 'Change Giver'. Also visit their landmark album 'A Maximum High', which includes a dramatic new version of 'Parallel Lines', which guitarist Paul Banks has jokingly described as sounding like “Shed Zeppelin”, and a dizzying, overwhelming until 'Better Days', originating from 'Instant Pleasures'.
'Liquid Gold' is completed with a new song that was written specifically for this project in the form of 'All Roads Lead To You' and a new version of the 'Instant Pleasures' era bonus track 'Waiting For The Catch', which is now presents Issy Ferris from UK Americana award winners Ferris & Sylvester.
Rick Witter of Shed Seven says: “'This year we celebrate 30 years as recording artists and after looking back on our career we thought we'd celebrate the milestone by revisiting some key songs from our past. The idea is that if we picked a bunch of songs and recorded them now, it would be a coherent walk down memory lane, but we'd also sit sonically next to our recent number one album, 'A Matter Of Time'. A logical next step. We see this album as a gateway to the world of Shed Seven. We also felt that adding an orchestra to each track would give the entire project a unique perspective. The songs have become panoramic, full of color.
The original recordings will always hold a special place in our hearts, but re-recording the chosen songs was an exciting prospect for us. It's a gift from the band to our loyal fans and will hopefully introduce some golden moments throughout our career to a whole new audience. Enjoy and here's to the next 30 years!
Listen to 'Devil In My Shoes' – BELOW:
The major scale that Rick describes shines without a doubt on the album's first song, 'Devil In My Shoes'. Originally a highlight of 1998's 'Let It Ride', this new version adds a cinematic sheen to the song: its newfound grandeur offers a brilliant contrast between his initially pessimistic melancholy and the full force of optimism that radiates as he sings it. reaches its climax.
Shed Seven will present a further preview of 'Liquid Gold' with a performance on Radio 2's Piano Rooms, airing on May 30.
The stunning album art was designed by Pure Evil, renowned artist Charles Uzzell-Edwards. Shed Seven guitarist Paul Banks has been a long-time fan and collector of his work.
