Not content with scoring their first #1 album in their 30th year with 'A Matter of Time', Shed Seven's next set of reworked orchestral hits 'Liquid Gold' could well become their second, with pre-order sales surpassing what they've achieved the last time around. Shed Seven's next move takes them back to the beginning as they share the new version of 'Speakeasy', the original of which appeared on their 1994 debut album 'Change Giver'.
While 'Speakeasy' is a constant crowd-pleaser in Shed Seven's live sets, this new 'Liquid Gold' casts it in a whole new light. The strings give it a new portentous and heavy dramatic sense and, just as important, the band's performance is much more accomplished. The power and clarity of Rick Witter's voice enhances the vengeful spirit of his lyrics, Paul Banks' solo adds a fresh, classic tone, and there's a tighter rhythmic punch to complement the prickly strings.
The 'Liquid Gold' album offers an alternative gateway into the world of Shed Seven – their most famous hits are now presented in a widescreen format that may attract a new audience. Reimagined by the band in collaboration with arrangers Fiona Brice (Liam Gallagher, Placebo) and Michael Rendall (who worked on both 'A Matter of Time' and 2017 Top 10 return 'Instant Pleasures') with a brass section and gospel singers, the career The all-encompassing set was first seen by 'Devil In Your Shoes'.
Shed Seven's 30th anniversary celebrations continue with two homecoming shows at York's Museum Gardens next month, both of which sold out quickly. They have already sold more than 45,000 tickets for the 30th anniversary tour in November, and only 10% of the tickets remain; Limited tickets are available for select shows. HERE. Two acoustic shows at the Huntington Working Men's Club have also been announced and sold out instantly. It's a place of special significance to Rick Witter and Paul Banks: As teenagers, they would pass by the venue and dream of the day they could perform there.
