Shelton will face the 26-year-old Tiafoe, who had an easier road to the third round after his previous opponent withdrew with an injury.
Both men have reached the semi-finals of the US Open before: Tiafoe had a fairytale run in 2022, while the two met at last year's tournament, with Shelton impressing Tiafoe to reach his first Grand Slam semi-final. Shelton is currently the odds-on favorite to win this year's race.
