Crow was a surprise guest at Rodrigo’s Guts tour stop at Bridgestone Arena, where they played Crow’s 1996 single
Olivia Rodrigo brought out surprise guest Sheryl Crow during her Guts world tour stop on Saturday in Nashville at Bridgestone Arena to perform “If It Makes You Happy,” and it looks like it did just that for those in the audience.
“I’m very excited because tonight we have a very special guest,” Rodrigo said before bringing Crow to the stage. “I think she’s one of the most talented, most wonderful, kindest human beings I’ve ever had the pleasure of meeting. I’ve been lucky enough to sing with her a few times. And I’m even luckier to call her a friend.”
They then launched into Crow’s lead single from her 1996 eponymous album, as fan video footage shows, where they traded verses and sang together on the chorus.
As Rodrigo said in her introduction on Saturday, this isn’t the first time they’ve sang together, and it’s not the first time in Nashville, either. The pair teamed up to perform the same song in September at the city’s famed Bluebird Café. Crow previously presented Rodrigo with the Billboard Women in Music award. In November, Rodrigo along with Stevie Nicks, welcomed Sheryl Crow into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, where they also performed Crow’s “If It Makes You Happy.”
Rodrigo, who is in the midst of her massive world tour that heads to St. Louis on Tuesday, recently launched Fund 4 Good, a new initiative for reproductive health. Named in reference to her 2021 hit “good 4 u,” the fund will direct a share of all ticket proceeds from North American stops of the Guts tour to the National Network of Abortion Funds — helping the group’s local chapters eliminate barriers to abortion access.
Meanwhile, Sheryl Crow’s new LP, Evolution, arrives on March 29. The deluxe version will include her rendition of Peter Gabriel’s “Digging in the Dirt,” where Gabriel also contributes his vocals.
