She talks about working with Peter Gabriel on “Digging in the Dirt,” Rage Against the Machine's Tom Morello on the title track, past collaborations she's most proud of, her favorite Sheryl Crow cover, and more!
Sheryl Crow:
I sent him a broken record that no one wanted to touch. Everyone I was playing it for was like, I mean, he was like, “Oh man, you gotta let me do this song. You have to let me do this song.'' Hi, I'm Sheryl Crow and this is Billboard News.
Rebecca Milzoff:
Hi to all. I'm Rebecca Milzoff. I am the executive editor of the magazine here at Advertising sign, and I'm so psyched to be here today with Sheryl Crow, one of my personal heroes. Fortunately, contrary to what you told us four years ago, she didn't release her last album in 2019. And she has an amazing new album Development coming.
Sheryl Crow:
Yes thank you. I know, I know better than to open my mouth and make such statements. But I keep saying this is not an album. It's more of a neutral snooze playlist.
Rebecca Milzoff:
What is the difference between an album and a playlist?
Sheryl Crow:
I will tell you. And I kind of joke about it. But, but not really. An album for me was usually an artistic statement with a beginning, middle and end. It's been curated, you know, some songs didn't make it. And people would hear it as a complete work.
