Former Bad Boy rapper Moses “Shyne” Barrow has spoken out following Diddy's arrest earlier this week on extortion and sex trafficking charges.
Shyne, who serves as the Leader of the Opposition in the Belize House of Representatives, shared his thoughts on his former boss' legal troubles with the media on Wednesday (September 18).
“When I was an 18-year-old kid I wanted to do nothing but make my mother proud and make Belize proud and get my talent recognized and conquer the world,” he said. “I was defending him, and he turned around and called witnesses to testify against me. It contributed… it pretty much sent me to jail. This is the context in which you should always describe it [relationship]. i forgave I proceeded. But let's not pretend I was in Miami for Thanksgiving and Christmas.”
Shyne refers to the December 1999 New York nightclub shooting at him, Diddy and Jennifer Lopez (the mogul's girlfriend at the time) were all present during. Shyne ended up being charged with assault and sentenced to 10 years behind bars in June 2001. He was eventually released in 2009 and deported to Belize.
And he continued: “So let's not forget what the cold, hard facts are. He's not someone I vacationed with and enjoyed this big, intimate brotherhood with. This is someone who ruined my life and who I forgave and who I moved on and in the best interest of Belize because he was in a position at that time to give scholarships and maybe invest, I wouldn't deny that I tried to bring the investment to Belize and contribution to education in Belize.”
“Don't twist it like we were boom balls. This is someone who ruined my life,” she continued. “But am I happy with what passes? Absolutely not. I'm different from other people – no one needs to fail to succeed.”
While Shyne forgave Diddy for their past, earlier this year he admitted that the 1999 shooting case that sent him to prison still “opens wounds” when he was brought up.
Sean “Diddy” Combs was arrested earlier this week on federal sex trafficking and racketeering charges in New York. He was once again denied bail on Wednesday (18 September) after a federal judge cited concerns that the embattled music executive would be a flight risk and could intimidate witnesses if released.
Didi's legal team put together a $50 million bond package that contained strict requirements, but the judge was unmoved. The rapper will remain in federal prison in Brooklyn pending trial.
