Shyne isn't done talking about his relationship with Diddy.
During a recent appearance on The Stephen A. Smith Show to promote the Hulu documentary The Honorable Shythe rapper-turned-politician spoke again about his relationship with his former Bad Boy boss Diddy and why the time was right to make a documentary about his journey and second chance at life.
First, Shyne revealed that he has been approached to make a documentary about his life for over 20 years and revealed that actor and producer Mark Wahlberg he had once offered him $1 million to do one. “I've been inundated with calls to do a documentary for the last 22 years, to be honest,” the opposition leader in the Belize House of Representatives told Stephen A. Smith. “Mark Wahlberg offered me, I think, a million dollar deal in 2004 and I have this proposal, I can share it with you. I was just always looking for the right partner and it had to make financial sense.”
Shyne also said he waited so long because he didn't want the documentary to just be about Diddy. “I didn't want to tell Diddy's story, because that's not my story,” she said. “My story is 'the next prime minister of Belize'. My story is strength. My story is the winner. My story is triumph over tragedy. This is my story.”
Stephen A. pushed back, however, and asked Shyne to explain exactly what happened to him and why he was reluctant to talk about that fateful night in 1999 and its aftermath. “In my words, I said so many years before 2001,” he said, referring to the first of six XXL title covers Death Before Dishonor. I was the one talking about not screwing Diddy and not getting him in trouble to get myself out of trouble. I said that 20 years ago.
She added: “I've always been supportive in every interview I've done until recently when I've healed and moved on and forgiven, but for years I've been saying what a creep I thought he was and how he ruined my life and at one point, I thought he was the devil,” she said. “But because of Diddy's power, which is as powerful as a pop culture icon, no one listened. So I moved on. And I've turned my life around to healing, forgiving, and taking responsibility for what I can control.”
He then went on to claim that he was made the fall guy without being offered compensation for the pain and suffering he suffered during his 10-year sentence. “And I can't control what someone did to me decades ago. I can't control them not wanting to pay reparations, not wanting to do it right,” Shyne admitted.
“People say, 'Oh, Diddy gave me millions to go to jail.' Nothing! He probably made two what I thought were offensive contributions in the last 20 years that led to the breakdown of the relationship. But I moved on. Yeah, so I was the sacrificial lamb? Naturally. Did I get the drop? Yes. There was no quid pro quo. There was no, “Listen, there's going to be $10 million waiting for you when you get out,” or just do the right thing. I did it myself. I was saying it, it's nothing new.”
However, he credited Diddy with teaching him about the entertainment business and referred to the ousted mogul as a “professor” and referred to his label as “Bad Boy University.”
Bulletin board reached out to Diddy's team for comment and received this message: “Mr. Combs categorically denies the claims of Mr. Barrow, including any suggestion that he orchestrated Mr. Barrow to “fall” or “sacrifice” him by directing witnesses to testify against him. These claims are unequivocally false.
“Mr. Combs was acquitted of all charges related to the 1999 incident at Club New York and has consistently maintained his innocence. He cannot accept or condone any characterization of his actions as “demonic” or malevolent.
Mr. Combs appreciates the course followed by Mr. Barrow and wishes him continued success. It is unfortunate that Mr. Barrow chose to review these claims. Mr. Combs believes that responsible journalism will weigh both established legal outcomes and positive, long-standing support of Mr. Combs to those he has worked with.”
