Simon Biles accomplished a remarkable feat during the 2024 Summer Olympics, becoming the most decorated US Olympian in history. After making history, Simone Biles subtly fired back at former athlete MyKayla Skinner Harmer, who made disparaging comments about Team USA's work ethic.
Simone Biles, 27, and the US women's gymnastics team won the gold that adds to Biles' hefty medal haul. As reported by NBC Olympics, Biles has five gold medals, passing Shannon Miller. In all, Biles holds a total of eight Olympic medals.
Much has been made of the age of the women's gymnastics team, especially after winning silver as a team at the 2020 Summer Olympics. Fellow athletes Suni Lee, Jordan Childs, Jade Carey and Hazley Rivera join Biles to become the fourth American gymnastics team in history winning gold at the Olympics.
Biles, who suffered “twists” during the vault competition at the 2020 Tokyo Games, landed on her vault in Paris with confidence and beaming pride. While an announcer called her vault, quote, “safe,” it was clear that whatever fears and worries Biles had before were now behind her.
“I was like, phew, at least no flashbacks or anything,” Biles said. “I was very relieved and after I landed in the vault I said, 'Oh yeah, we're definitely going to do that.'
And “do this” they did.
The win is a direct blow to Skinner Harmer, after the silver medalist posted a now-deleted YouTube video saying: “Aside from Simone, I feel like the talent and depth is not what it used to be. Just notice that, I mean, obviously a lot of girls don't work that hard.'
Skinner Harmer has since apologized to Biles and isn't letting it go as seen in the Instagram post below.
Additionally, Biles took to Twitter to share the team's real moniker after the F Around And Find Out team name was released.
“[O]but actually, the team's official name is golden girls (because the oldest olympic team) s/o to cecile,” Biles wrote to X.
While we can't confirm it, it looks like Skinner Harmer blocked Biles in the X after the win. Check out the alleged jab below.
Congratulations to Simone Biles, Suni Lee, Jordan Chiles, Jade Carey and Hezly Rivera! Keep scrolling for comments from X.
