Slash teams up with composer Bear McCreary for an epic new song “The End of Tomorrow” from the latter’s forthcoming album, The Singularity, arriving May 3rd.
The near-11-minute track opens with an instrumental orchestral intro before Slash’s guitar cuts through the mix. His tone and style are immediately recognizable, with McCreary entrusting the Guns N’ Roses axeman with the main melodic lines in the arrangement.
Bear’s brother, Brendan McCreary, contributes lead vocals to the track and assumes a prominent role, as the song traverses many movements and cinematic turns — not surprising given Bear’s background in film, television, and video game scores (Godzilla: King of the Monsters, The Walking Dead, Battlestar Galactica).
For those approaching the song via Slash’s notable guest spot — namely GN’R fans — “The End of Tomorrow” immediately recalls “November Rain” in its maximalism and narrative weight, and the Use Your Illusion masterpiece was a direct influence according to McCreary.
“’The End of Tomorrow’ is my homage to epic, operatic rock anthems I love, like ‘Bohemian Rhapsody’ and
‘November Rain,’” McCreary said via a press release. “Slash brought his iconic sound to the song, and his solo at the song’s heart will melt your face!”
The song follows McCreary’s single “Incinerator,” which features System of a Down’s Serj Tankian — one of a handful of rock/metal artists that contributed to The Singularity. McCreary is set to unveil the full album live on May 12th at the Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles (get tickets here), and Slash will be there to perform his part on “The End of Tomorrow.”
“This record in its entirety is incredible,” the guitarist said, “and that the show is going to be epic is an understatement.”
It’s one of many recent collabs for Slash, the other most recent being a cover Fleetwood Mac’s “Oh Well” with Chris Stapleton. That cover hails from Slash’s upcoming blues album, Orgy of the Damned, which will be supported by a traveling blues fest/tour.
