As evidenced by their impressive discography, Sleater-Kinney's Carrie Brownstein and Corin Tucker know what they're doing when it comes to guitar music. The indie rock duo nods to bands like Sonic Youth, Bikini Kill, Gang of Four and, of course, the one and only Patti Smith.
When Brownstein and Tucker first discovered Patti Smith's legendary debut album, Horses, an artistic earthquake occurred in the lives of both. They were impressed by Smith's challenging lyrics and fearless melodies, as well as the stunning portrait of Robert Mapplethorpe on the album cover. In this episode of The Spark Paradethe two discuss how Horses has remained a constant source of inspiration throughout Sleater-Kinney's decades-long career.
