Earlier this week, Slipknot announced a 2024 UK/European tour celebrating the 25th anniversary of their seminal 1999 LP. In a new interview, drummer Shawn “Clown” Crahan confirms that Slipknot will perform the entire album and hints that the band may play some intimate clubs as well.
When asked directly by Kerrang! if the band planned to perform the entire album, Clown replied, “Are you kidding me right now? You're talking about the anniversary of one of the greatest metal albums ever released in the thought process known as reality. … You think for a moment that this album is not going to be played in its entirety in front of a hundred people, 200 people, 300 people, 50,000 people. I'm not going to live forever, man. Neither does everyone else. Things change very quickly. I don't have time to laugh anymore.”
Clown then referred to the band playing smaller gigs, saying: “We're going to have fun too. This means small shows and you won't know it until you hear it. And if you heard it, you're already late and you're not going to see it. So you'd better open your soul, because then you'll feel it and you won't have to hear it, because I'm very serious.”
He continued, “It's going to be a really exciting 2024 and I think things are going to happen that you never thought you could.”
While Clowney mentioned that he's “not going to live forever,” he doesn't see the end of Slipknot anytime soon, adding, “Sometimes I'm scared to think that I'm going to be 70, pretending to myself that I'm going to go bang while the song plays.” sic).' But the crazy thing is, you and I know it's possible. I don't know exactly what it looks like, but if I get there, I'll have worked it out myself and learned what it means for the unit, as will everyone else – whatever it is and whoever it is. But the thing is, that's the gift. We just have this thing that I'm really blessed to be a part of.”
In addition to the UK/European tour, which will take place in December 2024, Slipknot are playing three festivals in the US in the spring: Sick New World, Welcome to Rockville and Sonic Temple. Tickets for the European shows are available herewhile US festival passes can be purchased here.
