The Smashing Pumpkins' open call to find a new guitarist has been a… resounding success. in a social media statementThe current trio of Billy Corgan, James Iha and Jimmy Chamberlin announced that they received more than 10,000 requests for the concert.
“The band has received over 10,000 submissions for the additional guitarist position,” Smashing Pumpkins wrote. “There are currently 8 people working full time to review each and every one of them.”
Last October, Pumpkins guitarist Jeff Schroeder announced he was leaving the group after more than 15 years. “I have decided to leave the band to make some space and explore a slightly different path,” he wrote at the time.
The Smashing Pumpkins' current lineup includes Corgan on vocals and guitar, Iha on guitar, and Chamberlin on drums, along with touring bassist Jack Bates and multi-instrumentalist Katie Cole.
Whoever the Pumpkins choose will have to learn fast. This summer, the band will co-headline shows with Weezer in the United Kingdom and Ireland, after which they will join Green Day's “The Saviors Tour.” Get tickets for dates in North America here and international concerts here.
