Snoop Dogg is no stranger to lighting the lights, but he'll have a very important job making sure the Olympic flame doesn't go out this week.
The rapper has been confirmed to be one of the Olympic torchbearers ahead of the opening ceremony in Paris on Friday. Snoop will not only carry the torch through the idyllic French countryside, but is also set to carry it on the penultimate leg through the Paris suburb of Saint-Denis, passing the Stade de France, the new Olympic Aquatics Centre and part of the Olympic Village.
The final torchbearer has not yet been confirmed, but several French celebrities will carry the flame before Snoop, including rapper MC Solaar, actress Laeticia Casta, film director Alice Diop, Paralympic athlete Charles-Antoine Kouakou and rugby player Abdelatif Benazzi. The torch will be placed in the Tuileries Garden in Paris, where it will remain for the duration of the tournament.
Snoop Dogg will not only be taking part in the Olympic torch portion, but will be both in the studio and on the ground as part of NBC's Paris Olympics coverage alongside host Mike Tirico. According to a press release from NBC, Snoop Dogg will visit various Olympic events in the city, interview athletes and coaches, and “explore the unique sights and sounds that only Paris has to offer.”
Snoop Dogg prepared for his guest commentary duties — and perhaps his torchbearer duties — by recently competing in a simulated 200-meter race at the U.S. Olympic track and field team trials in Eugene, Oregon.
The 2024 Summer Olympics in Paris begin this week, with the opening ceremony taking place on Friday. Events run until August 11.
