This week, Megan Thee Stallion has a lot to get off her chest in “Hiss.”
Over the past few years, Megan Thee Stallion has been in the center of negative attention following an incident in 2020 in which rapper Tory Lanez was found guilty of shooting her in the foot. With her new single, “Hiss,” Megan responds with venomous lyrics that go after the biggest names who called her a liar.
The most scathing lines are a thinly veiled swipe at Nicki Minaj, whose 2023 song “Red Ruby Da Sleeze” includes the lyric, “That .40 cal makes them dance like a go-go,” in a none-too-subtle reference to the Tory Lanez shooting. On “Hiss,” Megan appears to reference Nicki's husband, registered sex offender Kenneth Petty, when he raps, “These hoes ain't mad at Megan, these hoes mad at Megan's Law.”
Next on his list is Drake, who alluded to “a stud” who lied about “getting injections” in 2022’s “Circo Loco.” In addition to responding to Drake’s double entender about butt shots and injections, alluding to rumors that he received a abdominal sculpting procedure himself (“These blacks hate BBL and walk around with the same scars”), Megan comes after “cosplay gangsters” with “fake accents.” Given Drake's penchant for adapting a new accent every few months and his self-proclaimed ties to the mob, his shoe fits him well.
H-Town Hottie also takes a moment to seemingly address her ex, Pardison Fontaine (“He can't move on, he can't let it go”), but “Hiss” isn't all insults.
There's a moment of triumph when Megan calls herself “the Teflon Mr. in the courtroom.” Like mob boss John Gotti, she has emerged virtually unscathed from the scrutiny of the Tory Lanez shooting trial and a fierce legal battle with her former label 1501 Certified Entertainment.
