Squid has shared a new single called “Fugue (Bin Song),” an outtake from the sessions for their recent second album. oh Monolith.
After implementing it into their live performances over the past few years, Squid recorded “Fugue (Bin Song)” in spring 2022 while they were recording. Oh monolith alongside his long-time collaborator Dan Carey in Peter Gabriel's Real World studio. After its initial version did not appear on the record, Tortoise's John McEntire remixed and edited the tune in late 2023, resulting in the version we hear today.
At almost five and a half minutes, “Fugue” is a wandering track that draws on elements of dance punk, post rock, and noise pop. You can hear a bit of McEntire’s influence as the song culminates in a furious coda, almost like “TNT” with a lot more shredding. stream it below.
The squid will also take Oh monolith on tour in North America starting next week, and you can now find tickets here.
