At the age of 20, St. Lundi left his hometown of Hayling Island, off the south coast of England, and headed to London to begin a career in music. Despite the odds being stacked against him and having just £100 to his name, his plan somehow worked, with defining moments with Seeb and Kygo catching him attention before his solo career took off with the charts. Radio 2 playback for 'Ready To Be Loved' and 'Caer'.
That was just a few years ago, but now St. Lundi is excited to fulfill his life's ambition with the news that his debut album, 'The Island', will be released on September 20. The album is launched with new single 'Different Houses'.
'Different Houses' offers an engaging introduction to St. Lundi's artistic style. It opens with the soft and moving confessional, “The first time I felt pain I was twelve years old” before sharing the emotions and raw observations he and his siblings experienced after their parents' separation. The song's production grows in intensity: his voice ascends to new heights as sparse beats evolve into dramatic drum fills. Despite the song's heartbreaking emotions, the way it escalates suggests that St. Lundi has found peace with the situation, even if those harsh childhood memories still linger.
San Lundi says: “'Different Houses' is a really special song for me and I will always hold it close to my heart. It's about the day my parents told me, my brother and my sister, that they were going to separate. It took me years to write this song in a way that made me happy and comfortable, and also in a way that didn't paint my parents as villains. At the beginning of 2023 I started therapy for the first time, and three months later I wrote 'Different Houses'. I almost needed to heal before I could see how the song should be written. Even though my parents separated and my sister lived far away from my brother and me, we were still a family and lived in 'different houses.'”
