Stephen Sanchez is fresh off the release of the deluxe version of his debut album, Angel Face, and the 21-year-old star sat down with Billboard‘s Rania Aniftos to discuss his growing career.
“These songs existed in the creation of the record, but they weren’t raising their hands just yet. I think, when the story was complete […] we were able to add songs that didn’t make the record the first time around,” he shared of adding five more songs on the Club Deluxe edition of his project.
The OG version of the album features viral love song, “Until I Found You,” which hit No. 1 on Billboard’s Hot Rock & Alternative Songs. “I think more than anything, the lyricism and the orchestral production of the songs makes you feel nostalgic,” he shared. “Now, even more so, there’s this feeling of nostalgia.”
He continued, “It’s definitely an out of body experience hearing your song everywhere. It’s just a sign of the times, you open your phone and you’re connected to the world immediately. It can be a good and a bad things, for sure, but I think it’s good when it comes to songs like that, which feel universal and there’s a connectivity across just everybody — just everybody’s individual lives and stories and they can come to agreement on one thing. I feel like, the way the world is right now, things are just divided and fall apart, so I feel like people are looking for a hero in a lot of ways, whether that be through music, lyricism and how they connect people to each other or just art in itself.”
Sanchez added that “Until I Found You” is a “really special” song for him, “because it kind of came at a really perfect and interesting time because music just isn’t like that anymore. Lyrics just aren’t like that anymore. It feels like a good hand raise of that time that the music like that is still cool.”
