Along with three fellow superstars under their label JYP Entertainment, Stray Kids teamed up with Coca-Cola in late February for its new Coca-Cola K-Wave Zero Sugar drop which not only introduces a new “Fruity Fantasy” flavor; but it seems to honor the international fandom of K-pop. The boys join ITZY, NMIXX, as well as JYP Entertainment founder JY Park for Coca-Cola Creations' joint single “Like Magic.” Produced by Park, it has Bang Chan as the arranger and Changbin as the co-writer.
In addition to the new flavor and music video, the collaboration offers limited-edition clothing and accessories, including a special lamp, digital photo cards, an “artificial intelligence music video experience” for mobile devices. the Coca-Cola Creations micrositeall concluded with the K-Wave Concert for Inkigayoscheduled for June 2 that promises to host JYP talent and other top K-pop names including Stray Kids, ITZY, NMIXX and more.
“The experience begins with an amazing taste of Coca-Cola Zero Sugar accompanied by a fruity K-pop magic,” adds Oana Vlad, senior director of Global Strategy at The Coca-Cola Company. “We're excited to celebrate one of the world's most passionate fan communities and create new experiences that we hope will bring the magic of Coca-Cola to fans around the world.”
Looking ahead to the K-Wave concert and the year that the band already confirmed will include—and you might need a breath to take it all in—a fan-meeting concert, third-world tour, an album, a “special” album, pop-up shops, and loads more digital content, Bang Oi Chan , Lee Know, Changbin, Han, Hyunjin, Felix, Seungmin and IN gave Advertising sign some additional insight into their first major project of 2024 and what else is coming.
Congratulations on launching this new campaign for Coca-Cola K-Wave Zero Sugar. I think the first order of business is to find out if you have tried it and what do you think of this new flavor?
All: Yes, it tastes good!!!
Hyunjin: It's really very nice. The taste was refreshing, a bit like bubblegum and a somewhat hazy or foggy sensation.
Seungmin: One of the best cokes in the world.
You and several of JYP Entertainment's artists participated in this campaign honoring K-pop fans. What is your overall opinion? in this;
Bang Chan: You know how you just mentioned how this campaign “honors K-pop fans,” right? But it's really an honor for us to be in the campaign that honors K-pop fans, you know what I mean? I feel like it's really a good opportunity not only for us, but also for the other artists in JYP to really spread the word about K-pop, and that in itself is something we're very honored to do. And hopefully people out there can really look forward to the K-pop wave.
Changbin: I usually drink one or two Cokes a day—two Zero Cokes a day, that is! I am very happy to be able to host this campaign with real drink and our JYP family. I think it makes a lot of sense. I believe Zero Coke can bring us all together—K-pop fans, the JYP family, and Stray Kids. I can't wait to continue this love.
You all participated in the song and video for “Like Magic” along with JY Park, ITZY, and NMIXX. Changbin co-wrote with JYP and Bang Chan is a vocal arranger. What was the process of the collaboration?
Bang Chan: Vocal instrumentation is something I've always done, especially with our own music and everything. But JYP himself said, “Oh Chan, you can direct by yourself. you know the members better than me, so do all the vocals.” And then, like the tuning, the editing, the arrangement — I got that too, and it was a really cool experience because usually, we work on music by ourselves, but to do it for someone else like JYP, it was a great honor, and overall it was very, very fun.
Changbin: When I first heard the song, it was quite new and gave me a kind of fun feeling. So I was really thinking and thinking a lot about how to reflect and incorporate my rap style into it. I'm really happy that the results looked really good and Mr. JYP also said he's happy with it. Also, when I got to work with him after a long time, I was very excited because I have been working with him as a producer for a long time.
Starting with production, what was it like collaborating on a song with so many of your fellow JYP artists?
Bang Chan: Our company is very much a “family ship”, know what I mean? We all looked out for each other and getting the chance to work together on something was really a lot of fun. I mean, we didn't get to see each other on the set of the music video and everything — because everyone's schedules are very, very busy and different — but it was like we did JYP Nation [the name for company-wide JYP Entertainment songs or concerts].
Some of the members spent time as children in different countries. Are there any particular Coke flavors you remember loving as a kid?
Felix: When I was younger, I remember drinking a lot of vanilla…
All: Wow!!!
Felix: I remember being at a party once, there was a whole crate of vanilla coke and I was drinking, six at a time. I think that's my biggest memory and that was with Vanilla Coca-Cola.
Coca-Cola also announced a K-Wave concert for Inkigayo is scheduled for June 2, where you will appear. Any chance fans can look forward to new Stray Kids music by then?
Bang Chan: It's only March and we have so much to do this year. Look, Jeff, I'm not going to spoil too much, but we've prepared a lot. I'm sure you'll be surprised, but I can say that we've prepared a lot of things — very different from what we've done so far. So hopefully, people out there can really, I guess, take it all in with our stuff that we're going to come out with and it all works out. Hopefully the STAYs really enjoy what we're about to showcase and 2024 can be another great year for Stray Kids.
To expand slightly, the “2024 STEP OUT” video teased a lot. Is there anything else you can share?
Bang Chan: We'll let your imagination take you there. [Laughs]
Fair enough. What else should we know as you start 2024 with this first major collaboration?
Bang Chan: We are always working on everything, but we are very confident and feel really great that we have STAY out there because all these great results are because of them. It's a gift from STAY and we just want to create more STAY gifts out there — 2024 is “the year of giving.” Hopefully we Stray Kids can give more not just to STAY, but to everyone out there. Well, thanks Advertising sign for everything and we thank Coca-Cola for giving us this great experience and the opportunity to work on a very great campaign.
Felix: And we look forward to the future! Today was a lot of fun answering a lot of good questions and talking about the Coca-Cola campaign. it was great to delve into. We just hope that our messages can spread clearly to the world and show a lot of positivity. We hope that [everyone] you can enjoy this year's Coca-Cola K-Wave edition — I just can't wait.
