Sturgill Simpson has announced a new album and supporting North American tour, albeit under a different name.
After promising to release just five studio albums under his own name, the country singer will unveil his latest project, titled Desir Passage, under his new stage name of Johnny Blue Skies. The eight-song album, which Simpson (err… Johnny Blue Skies) recorded at Clement House Recording Studio in Nashville, TN and Abbey Road Studios in London, England, with production by DavidFerguson, will be released on July 12 via from his own label, High. To support the release, Simpson and his band — Kevin Black (bass), Robbie Crowell (keyboards), Laur Joamets (guitar), and Miles Miller (drums) — will embark on the “Why Not?” Tour.” The 28-date tour, which will begin in mid-September, marks their first full tour in more than four years.
Ticket pre-sale is scheduled for Wednesday, June 12, and fans can register for access now through June 10 through Simpson's website. General ticket sales are scheduled for Friday, June 14 via Ticketmaster.
Tickets will only be transferable outside of Ticketmaster, except for shows in Virginia, Illinois and Utah, and may only be sold at face value.
