Sublime With Rome have announced that they will be disbanding at the end of 2024. The news comes just after the surviving members of Sublime performed a concert with late singer Bradley Nowell's son, Jakob, on vocals and guitar.
In a press release, singer Roma Ramírez announced his imminent departure from Sublime With Rome, which will effectively end the band. His full statement reads as follows:
“After almost two extraordinary decades, I announce my departure from Sublime with Roma at the end of 2024. Upcoming performances over the next year will allow us to reflect together on countless incredible memories!
Over the past 2 years I've spent countless hours pouring my soul into my solo music, and the excitement of sharing these songs with you is only increasing! I have some really important news that I can't let go just yet. Just wait!
Singing and playing guitar for this iconic band has been a once in a lifetime opportunity and absolutely epic. Carrying on the Sublime legacy has been a trust that I will always cherish.
This is just the beginning…”
Sublime With Rome originally featured Ramirez and classic Sublime members Eric Wilson (bass) and Bud Gaugh (drums). They formed in 2009, played Sublime songs in concert and released their debut album. Sincerely in 2011. Gaugh left the band early on, but Ramirez and Wilson have remained members since, recently recruiting Joe Tomino as their new drummer, following stints by Josh Freese and Carlos Verdugo.
In total, Sublime With Rome has released three albums of original music, the most recent being 2019. Blessings. Last month they released the new EP. tangerine skies.
The decision to end Sublime With Rome appears to clear the way for Wilson and Gaugh to play more shows with Jakob Nowell. The three performed eight classic Sublime songs at a benefit in Los Angeles for Bad Brains singer HR on December 11.
Before that concert, it was announced that a more formal grouping of Wilson, Gaugh and Jakob Nowell might be on the cards. “We're waiting patiently and doing the right thing,” said Kevin Zinger of Regime Music Group, who has been hired to manage Sublime's business assets. “If the vibe is there, the vibe is there.”
Before Sublime With Rome ends, they will fulfill their 2024 concert commitments. As of now they have a a handful of dates scheduled for February and April, with tickets available here.
