Suede will headline a major outdoor concert this summer on Thursday 1 August at the stunning grounds of Audley End in Saffron Walden, Essex. For this extravaganza, the independent icons will be joined by a very special guest, Johnny Marr. Nadine Shah will open the event.
Bursting onto the scene 30 years ago, Suede were named Britain's best new band by Melody Maker, and rose to the top of the charts with their self-titled debut album, which was their second winner of the Mercury Music Prize.
With great songs like 'Metal Mickey', 'Animal Nitrate', 'Beautiful Ones', 'Trash', 'Saturday Night' and 'Filmstar', Suede achieved notable success on a series of era-defining albums, including 'Dog Man Star', 'Coming Up', 'Head Music' and 'A New Morning'.
The band went on hiatus in the early 2000s before reuniting in 2010. Since then, they have released more albums, 'Bloodsports', 'Night Thoughts', 'The Blue Hour' and 2022's hugely successful 'Autofiction'. All of these releases reached the Top 10 on the UK album charts, with 'Autofiction' debuting at No. 2, their highest charting album since 1999.
Consisting of singer Brett Anderson, guitarist Richard Oakes, bassist Mat Osman, drummer Simon Gilbert and keyboardist and rhythm guitarist Neil Codling, Suede remains one of the best live bands in the world. In recent years, their electric live shows have captivated audiences around the world.
For this unique show at Audley End, they will be joined by a very special guest, Johnny Marr.
One of the most respected musicians and songwriters of his generation, Johnny Marr, formed the legendary band The Smiths in 1982. His jangle pop guitar achieved critical and commercial success, defining both the band's sound and the era.
After The Smiths, Marr became a member of many iconic bands, including The Pretenders, The The, Electronic, Modest Mouse and The Cribs. He also collaborated with big stars, such as Pet Shop Boys, Bryan Ferry, Talking Heads and Hans Zimmer, all before emerging with his debut solo album, 'The Messenger', in 2013.
Since then, he has released four more albums, most recently 2022's 'Fever Dreams Pts 1-4', and all of his solo releases have reached the Top 10 on the UK Albums Chart. Last year, Johnny Marr released 'Marr's Guitars', a unique cultural history of modern music and the guitar told through stunning photography and his own insights and reflections.
Mercury Prize-nominated singer-songwriter Nadine Shah will open the event. Described as a mix of Nick Cave and PJ Harvey, Shah will perform songs from her recently released album, 'Filthy Underneath'.
