A trio of live music and punk veterans are launching a new tour this summer to support the evolution of acts and boost the success of rolling festivals like the Vans Warped tour.
Idobi Radio Summer school, released by Eric Tobin (Hopeless Records), Michael Kaminsky (KMGMT) and Kevin Lyman (Warped tour), aims to bring new musical discovery to the fore, giving new and growing bands a platform to be introduced to larger audiences across the country. The inaugural lineup features six of the hottest up-and-coming bands in punk, emo and hardcore: Stand Atlantic, Magnolia Park, The Home Team, Scene Queen, Honey Revenge and Letdown.
Kaminsky believes these six artists represent the next generation of headline acts thanks to their musical skills, cultural diversity, inclusiveness and positivity.
“We're starting the idobi Radio Summer School to address a serious need to develop opportunities for artists and bands to connect with audiences,” Kaminsky explains, noting that he's modeled the amphitheater tour in part from the Vans Warped tour, which was run by in 1995. until 2019 and helped break hundreds of bands.
The three founders met last year to develop the model for the new brand of summer festivals with a ticket price that young and new fans could afford. The idobi Radio Summer School is sponsored with tickets priced at $30. tickets go on sale Friday.
“The festival specifically champions independent artists, record labels and promoters, with 100% of sponsorship money subsidizing lower ticket prices,” the founders said in a statement. “All sponsors were selected based on their ability to support the artists or fans on tour. idobi uses its massive media reach to boost each artist's profile. OneRPM subsidizes ticket prices, reducing costs for fans. Hot Topic will support not only with their massive marketing reach, but also by supporting artists across their entire network of retail stores. It is important that our sponsors support the values of our scene and we are excited to have them contribute to the community in a meaningful way with us.”
The tour kicks off Wednesday, July 10 in Cleveland at the Agora Ballroom and will visit more than 25 cities across the country, including stops in Nashville, Houston, Orlando, Philadelphia, Chicago, Denver, Seattle and more before wrapping up in Anaheim on Sunday .
