If a globally acclaimed music festival asks you for money for a spot on the lineup, chances are you're being extorted.
SXSW has issued a statement notifying the public to be aware of pay-to-play opportunities offered by scammers. in a blog post Shared this week, the Austin-based summit highlighted that they operate with an invite-only policy and do not ask artists for money in exchange for spots in their lineups or the opportunity to audition.
While many may already be aware of this type of scam in a modern music industry rife with fraud, it is important to follow SXSW's guidance to stop any further damage. Event organizers asked those who have received payment demands to notify their organizers immediately at this email address so they can investigate the problem further.
