Whether you're willing to admit it or not, the riddim has become sadly prosaic, a victim of repetition and stagnation as artists recycle the same presets and arrangements en masse. Syzy, however, stands out as a maverick producer who infuses the grating genre with an emotional core, producing bit-crushed dreamscapes free of the expectations of others.
That focus is on the bone marrow of The weight of the worldwhere it captures the essence of a generation that uses its emotions like QR codes: instantly scannable but infinitely complex.

An undeniable highlight is “HEART123,” which seamlessly blends the roaring bass of dubstep with the raw, melodic undercurrent of digicore. Syzy’s effervescent production is a masterclass in tension and release, with glitchy drops plummeting like a malfunctioning elevator, only to be caught by threads of synth. Meanwhile, kmoe’s shaky vocals oscillate between whispered confessions and bold declarations, reflecting the push and pull of a budding romance.
Elsewhere on the album, Syzy shines with the amazing melodic beat “Take my energy!” The Southern California producer begins with a nod to his hometown by sampling an MLB announcer's song. call of his first career home run hit by Angels legend Mike Trout in 2011. Then he unleashes a gassy track where distorted synths cut through noisy subs.
Syzy’s tenacity comes to a head on the album’s cathartic closer, “Dancing on My Own,” a captivating burst of hyperpop that frees her from society’s critical gaze. The track is a microcosm of the full project, a commentary on shared struggle and resilience in the face of the fog of apathy.
