SZA has unveiled a new cover of Eminem’s 2002 classic “Lose Yourself.”
“U ever just cover Eminem on some tender shit for feels?” she wrote in an Instagram post playing a portion of an mp3 track titled “Lose Yourself (Cover) (more verb+AT+EQ)” out of her Notes app. “Not on a project,” she clarified. “Just for mental health.”
SZA’s take on the song sees her reimagine it as a vibey ballad carried by an electric piano. Overtop, her signature vocal croon transforms Eminem’s lyrics into a flowing melody. The cover isn’t available on streaming services yet (and it’s unclear if it will be), but SZA now joins the likes of Taylor Swift, Kelly Clarkson, Machine Gun Kelly, and more artists who have covered “Lose Yourself.” Listen to SZA’s version below.
Meanwhile, SZA fans are awaiting two releases: the deluxe version of her album SOS, and her new project Lana. No updates have been given on those projects in recent weeks, but a few hours before she shared the Eminem cover, she posted a photo of herself in head-to-toe bug makeup, with antennae and everything, leading fans to speculate whether new visuals are in production.
Up next, SZA is booked for a number of festival appearances, including sets at Lollapalooza, Governors Ball, and more. Grab tickets here.
As for Eminem, the rapper will return with The Death of Slim Shady (Coup de Grâce) later this year, his first new album since 2020. On Friday, he shared the album’s lead single, “Houdini.”
