Capitol One City Parks Foundation is back with another diverse, star-studded lineup for this year's monthly SummerStage New York event, with T-Pain, Counting Crows and more on a schedule revealed Tuesday (April 23).
The season-long concert series, which features a mix of free and ticketed events, kicks off May 17 when James Arthur takes the stage in Central Park. Masego and Jordan Ward, Pride Disco with Trixie Matell, Amanda Lepore and Jess King and Ethel Cain with Teethe will be performing at the same location on later dates throughout the summer. Also appearing this SummerStage season were Kim Gordon, Andra Day, Corrine Bailey Ray, Ghostface Killah, Sun Ra Arkestra, Slauson Malone 1, Caifanes + Café Tacvba, Madison Cunningham, LA LOM, John-Robert, Corrente: Beatriz Mira & Tia Barreiros and others.
The “buy U a Drank” hip-hop star will also bring his Mansion in Wiscansin tour to Central Park on June 23, while the “Hanginaround” rock group is scheduled for a benefit show there on July 11.
“We are thrilled to once again celebrate the vibrant diversity of New York's cultures and communities across all five boroughs,” Erika Elliott, SummerStage's Executive Artistic Director, said in a statement. “Our lineup will shine a bright light on some of music's most iconic female artists who have influenced their genres, from rock and New Orleans to the legends of Dominican merengue and Brazilian samba.”
This year's SummerStage will also feature recitals from The Metropolitan Opera and showcases from the Blue Note Jazz festival, 97.9 La Mega, Federation Sound 25th Anniversary, Works & Process: It's Showtime NYC and DJ Rekha's Basement Bhangra Beyond at more venues such as New York's Coney, Island Amphitheater, Brooklyn Bridge Park, Jackie Robinson Park, Williamsbridge Oval and Herbert Von King Park.
“We continue to support up-and-coming artists from around the world showcasing their fresh takes on genres including hip-hop, Americana, rock, Latin, pop and more,” added Elliott. “2024 promises to be an unforgettable season!”
This year's SummerStage follows 2023 performances from Grandmaster Flash, Tanya Tucker, Noel Gallagher and more. Many of last year's showcases were held to celebrate the 50th anniversary of hip-hop, which emerged from the Bronx in the 1970s.
