T-Pain may be an R&B legend, but his influence on country music isn't as well known — on purpose.
In his new Advertising sign cover, the 39-year-old superstar shared the reaction he's received from country music fans over the years. When he took over Chris Stapleton's version of “Tennessee Whiskey” for 2023 At the top of the covers album, he recalls, “A country music Instagram page posted my version and there was only one comment:No.” She added that she faced similar hostility after a red carpet interview in 2008. “They asked me who I wanted to work with and I said Carrie Underwood,” she says. “Country fans were like, 'He's not working with j-oos. He has too much class for someone like you. Why would…” And I was giving her props!”
He revealed, “I actually lived in Nashville for a while, writing fiction for country artists from 2014 to '16. Everyone was trying to figure out why Luke Bryan was saying 'T-Pain' in all his songs for a second.”
T-Pain listed Rhett Akins, Dallas Davidson, Toby Keith and Florida Georgia Line as some of the artists he's worked with, but after seeing hateful comments, decided to keep his contributions private, likening his experience to Beyoncé after its release Cowboy Carter. “Beyoncé is strong enough to carry on. It's easier for her to stay in it than me,” he admitted. “I'm not at that level, so I can't put a punch in that kind of thing. So I kept doing it, but I stopped taking credit.”

Speaking of Bey, back in March at his unveiling Cowboy Carter cover, the singer wrote that the Renaissance The sequel “was born out of an experience” she had years ago where she “didn't feel welcome,” adding, “it was very clear that I wasn't.”
Fans assumed her comment was in reference to her performance of 'Daddy Lessons' with The Chicks at the 2016 CMA Awards, which sparked calls for a boycott of the CMAs on social media, with some people slamming the awards show for featuring the superstar . After the performance, there was no mention of her appearance on the CMAs website.
