Billboard Cover star singer-songwriter T-Pain shares the stories behind some of his biggest hits, “Buy U a Drank,” “Bartender,” “I'm Sprung,” and “I'm N Luv (Wit a Stripper).” , in its iconic features with Ye, formerly known as Kanye West, (“Good Life”), Flo Rida (“Low”), DJ Khaled (“All I Do Is Win”), Chris Brown (“Kiss Kiss”) and Lil Wayne (“Get Money”).
T-Pain:
This is the Hot 100, this is everyone. These are the 100 best songs. That was the first time I released something, you know, nationally. My God, what a world opened up to me. You know what I mean? Like he didn't know what was going to happen after that. I didn't know how to deal with it coming back or anything like that. I barely knew who he was, but I think he was just a kid, just a kid who didn't know what he was doing. I didn't know where I wanted to go, you know, I just wanted a car at the time. I was fine with that. Until they gave me that first check. Holy cow, that first checkpoint was out of control! Street! Oh yeah, that car theory went out the window right away.
But having it at 100. I mean, it was fine. I was fine with that. And you know, a lot of people would look at that and say, “Well, it's nowhere near number one.” But at the time, that's my highest record on the charts. Like me, they see me with the best 100 songs in this entire category. That's all. This is the Hot 100. These are all at the same time. This is not hip-hop, this is not R&B, this is not adult contemporary, this is not Latin, this is nothing. These are all. This is not a country.
