Tame Impala's Kevin Parker has announced a new instrument called Orchid. Designed by the great producer over a decade ago and developed by Telepathic instrumentsOrchid is an “advanced chord-generating hardware synthesizer” built with both seasoned songwriters and new musicians in mind. Orchid's main feature is the eight-key chord-selecting and modifying matrix, with an octave keyboard where users can select a root note and trigger the chord. It also includes a 16-voice polyphonic synth engine with built-in ambience, FX shaping, a separate bass engine exclusively for the bottom end, dual stereo built-in speakers, a responsive keyboard, and a rechargeable battery. In addition, there are built-in effects such as reverb and delay, loop mode and MIDI output. Packaged in a sleek, retro futuristic design by co-founder Ignacio Germade, the Orchid is available for purchase for $549 starting December 18th.
Over the summer, Parker worked on a “psychedelic minimalism” capsule for Parisian fashion brand APC as well. His clothing line for them includes alpaca sweaters, corduroy pants, bucket hats and more to keep you cozy.
Tame Impala's latest album, The slow rushwas released in 2020. Over the years, the band has linked up for collaborations with Thundercat and Diana Ross, released an Elvis Presley remix, and shared the original song “Wings of Time” from 2023. They also dropped a few B-sides from albums, such as “The Boat I Row” and “No Choice”.
