In new live bonus track from Department of Tormented PoetsTaylor Swift is raising eyebrows just by capitalizing a few letters.
On Thursday night (August 15), Swift's online store announced the release of two new limited-edition digital editions of her latest album: one featuring “The Prophecy (Long Story Short – Live From Lyon)” and the other featuring “thank You aimEe (Mean – Live from London).” The oddly capitalized second track differs from the style of the title when it was first released as part of it Section The tortured poets: The Anthology expanded double album in April. Then it was titled “thanks aIMee”; now, instead of capitalizing KIM (in an apparent reference to Kim Kardashian), the new version reads YE (in an apparent reference to Swift's longtime nemesis, formerly known as Kanye West).
The move didn't go unnoticed on social media, with Swifties going crazy over the track's new focus. “Doing this right after his album got blocked from number one… taylor swift the legend you are!” a user X commented, in relation to Tormented poets topped the Billboard 200 in its 15th week over Ye and Ty Dolla $ign's Vultures 2 in second place. “DOES NOT CHANGE THE CAPITAL LETTER!!!! TAYLOR NATION YOU ARE SO RAW AND I LOVE IT!!!!” wrote another user X.
Commentators also speculate that the new styling could signal the imminent arrival of Fame (Taylor Edition). The original 2017 album was recorded in the wake of Swift's feud with the then-married couple – which involved Ye's controversial verse about Taylor and a recording of a private phone call released by Kardashian – and examines the impact on the pop star's image among music lovers and critics.
The new version of “thank you aimEe” was recorded at Wembley Stadium in London on June 22 when Swift performed the song for the first time as a mash-up with 2011. Speak now single “Mean” during her acoustic set. “Someday I'm gonna sing this song at Wembley,” Swift improvised to the tune of “Mean” during the performance. Swift returns to Wembley this week for five more dates before the European leg of her Eras tour wraps up on Tuesday. He will choose to trek back when he returns to North America in November, stopping first in Toronto.
