Taylor Swift'small Department of Tormented Poets is now the only album in Spotify history to surpass one billion streams in a week, the streaming service announced on Wednesday (April 24) — and it only took five days to do it.
The pop star's 11th record arrived at midnight on Friday (April 19), bringing with it 16 new songs, including the single “Fortnight” featuring Post Malone. Exactly two hours later, Swift nearly doubled the length of the list with a surprise 15 more titles as part of a Anthology extended version of the album.
Since then, Tormented Poets has amassed more than a billion streams across its 31 tracks on Spotify, the fastest LP ever.
The milestone marks just the latest record Swift has set with the new album in recent days, with Tormented Poets It recently became Spotify's most streamed album in a single day with over 300 million streams accumulated in the first 24 hours of availability. Likewise, “Fortnight” set a new precedent for most single-day streams between single songs on the platform.
Tormented Poets it also earned more first-day streams than any other pop album in Apple Music history upon its release. Additionally, with 800,000 vinyl copies sold in the LP's first four days on the market, TTPD broke Swift's own record for the biggest sales week for a vinyl album in the modern era, selling over 693,000 1989 (Taylor Edition) in its first week.
“This period of the writer's life is now over, the chapter closed and completed,” Swift wrote of her latest work in Instagram during its circulation. “There is nothing to avenge, no scores to settle once the wounds are healed. And upon further reflection, a large number of them turned out to be self-inflicted. This writer strongly believes that our tears become sacred in the form of ink on a page. Once we tell our saddest story, we can get rid of it.”
