Teddy Swims' 'Lose Control' adds another No. 1 to his unusually impressive resume of the radio chart coronavirus as it climbs to the top of Advertising sign's Adult Contemporary survey (dated August 3).
The song, on SWIMS Int./Warner Records, holds the number five airplay position, having been number one on the All Format Radio Songs, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay and Adult R&B Airplay charts prior to its acquisition by Adult Contemporary.
(The track also ends Miley Cyrus' record-breaking 57-week Adult Contemporary reign with “Flowers.”)
“Lose Control” becomes just the fifth song to reach No. 1 on all five charts, and the first in nearly a decade, following the first four songs in 2014-16. Here's a recap of the elite of such crossover hits (dating back to the early/mid 1990s, when most of Advertising signairplay charts started).

Before topping the five airplay charts noted above, “Lose Control” also peaked at No. 2 on Adult Alternative Airplay in January. It is tied only with Adele's “Hello” and Sam Smith's “Stay With Me” in having topped Radio Songs, Pop Airplay, Adult Pop Airplay, Adult R&B Airplay and Adult Contemporary and has reached the top two spots on Adult Alternative Airplay, reflecting rare support in formats ranging from pop and adult to R&B and rock. (“Hello” and “Stay With Me” both hit No. 1 on Adult Alternative Airplay.)
Meanwhile, since “Lose Control” led the all-genre, multi-metric Billboard Hot 100 for a week in March, it and “Hello” are the only songs to top the Hot 100 on all five airplay charts listed above.
“Teddy Swims is a once-in-a-generation talent who defies genres, making him truly unique in today's music landscape,” says Warner evp of promotion and merchandising Mike Chester. “When we started promoting 'Lost Control', our journey was carefully planned. From the beginning, we noticed that the song resonated across cultures, creating a strong and diverse fan base. Our digital department played a key role, laying the groundwork for the song's development. I'm yelling at you [the division’s] Randall Telfer.
“We realized that 'Lose Control' needed time to develop before we could successfully introduce it into other formats such as adult R&B,” adds Chester. “Special thanks to Ron Stewart, our head of urban radio, for creating an ideal strategy, along with Josh Reich [pop]Rob Goldclang [rock/alternative] and Michelle Babbitt [adult]. Teddy Swims has a timeless voice that breaks boundaries, and we wanted to make sure his music reached as wide an audience as possible without limiting himself to a specific genre.”
