The voice kicked off its 25th season this week, and in a new blind audition from Tuesday night's (February 27) episode, a pair of 17-year-old twins get a row of three chairs.
California natives Justin and Jeremy Garcia traded verses to One Direction's “Story of My Life,” harmonizing the chorus, which caught the attention of coaches Chance the Rapper, Reba McEntire and newcomers Dan + Shay, her first coach series. twin.
“It was a fantastic performance,” the country team's Shay Mooney told the teenage duo. “From the first time I heard you harmonizing and found out it was two people, I was like, 'We've got to shoot. This is awesome.'”
Shay Smyers added with a laugh, “We've got just the chair for you, too,” gesturing to Dan + Shay's special red spinning chairs.
McEntire tried to influence the duo by connecting them when they were part of a band of sisters, citing her family band The Singing McEntires. Mooney then chimed in to note that he was also in a band with his two sisters. “Just in case that made Rema a leg,” he insisted. “Don't let her sweet talk you. I get that she's beautiful and she's a legend, but I had to throw it out there.
John Legend, the only coach who didn't turn his chair, then decided to hilariously stir the pot, asking both Mooney and McEntire, “You all left your family teams, didn't you?”
Finally, the Garcia Twins chose Dan + Shay as their coaches this season. Watch the full audition below and tune in The voice on Monday and Tuesday at 8 p.m. ET/PT on NBC.
