Every year, countless recording artists transform their discography into live shows, going on tour to serve their biggest fans around the world. But a select few have the power to bring their fans to them, staging extravagant productions in a city as the masses travel to see a once-in-a-career performance. Here, we look at the biggest home runs in Boxscore history.
Most of the time, these residences are shown in theaters in Las Vegas. Among the most popular international tourist destinations, Sin City has become a second home for many of the biggest musical acts.
A few ground rules: as with all Boxscore charts, this list only includes shows that were listed on the Billboard Boxscore. The limit for inclusion on this list is a minimum of 10 performances in a single venue. Some productions, especially those at MGM, will be based in a Vegas theater but will travel to a handful of other venues, including the Theater at MGM National Harbor in Oxon Hill, Md. – only home performances will count towards accommodation totals.
Additionally, this list only includes houses that have their own unique names and productions and setlists – not mini-houses on a tour. This means that Harry Styles' 15 shows at Madison Square Garden and the Kia Forum are excluded, as they were part of the Love On tour. The same is true of the theatrical stints that made up Madonna's 2019-20 Madame X tour.
However, residences split with tours do count. That means Bruno Mars' Park MGM residency – interrupted by the 24K Magic World tour – is eligible, as is Carrie Underwood's ongoing Reflection.
Scroll below for the 25 highest-grossing concert residencies of all time, as reported by Billboard Boxscore. More recently, Dead & Company headlined a summer stint at Las Vegas' Sphere, while Billy Joel and Lady Gaga closed multi-year residencies in New York and Vegas, respectively.
