The Black Keys are back with “I Forgot to Be Your Lover,” the latest single from their upcoming new album. Ohio players.
Written by William Bell and Booker T. Jones, and first released by Bell as a single in 1968, “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is an ideal song for The Black Keys treatment, as it gives the duo the opportunity to showcase his ability for bluesy soul and mid-tempo. Built on a foundation of guitars and a classic Patrick Carney beat, the arrangement is adorned with quilted organ and silky strings.
With a sensual touch, comes the passionate cover, while the band publications on social media they explain, “just in time for Valentine's Day.” Watch the official lyric video below.
Following the release of “Beautiful People (Stay High)” last month, “I Forgot to Be Your Lover” is the second single from Ohio players, due April 5 via Nonesuch/Warner Records. The band's twelfth studio album, and first since 2022 Dropout Boogie – will feature special appearances from Noel Gallagher, Greg Kurstin, Beck and more.
Ohio players will be available in vinyl, cassette and CD formats. Pre-orders are ongoing.
