The founders of Green Man festival announce the new event
Gruff Rhys will headline The Wake in July

Green man festival founders Jo Bartlett and Danny Hagan are delighted to announce that they are launching a new event. The Wake up will take place on Saturday 27 July 2024 in a beautiful, picturesque woodland location near Billingshurst (see photo below) in West Sussex (RH14 0AL) and will be an intimate one-day event featuring music, literature, street food and craft beer.
Speaking about The Wake, Jo & Danny said “We've been looking for the perfect location where we can get back to doing what we love – sharing great music and great times. We finally found it, near Billingshurst in Sussex. We're thrilled to be hosting The Wake and over the moon that Gruff Rhys will be headlining the first one.”
While running Green Man, Jo & Danny closed Bon Iver, The National, Robert Plant, Four Tet, Laura Marling, Jarvis Cocker, Fleet Foxes, Bonnie Prince Billy and many more. Always in bands at the same time as promoting gigs, the pair actually started gigging when they were running The Buzz Club at The West End Center in Aldershot. The artists booked is a who's who of the indie scene, including The Stone Roses, Blur, Manic Street Preachers, Happy Mondays, Suede, The Charlatans, Elastica and Spiritualized among others.
in addition to Rough RhysDomino's One True Pairing (Tom Fleming from Wild Beasts), Bella Union artist Emma Tricca, with echoes of 70s acid folk rock, a very rare live performance by Mat Flint (Heavenly Social, Revolver, Death In Vegas), psychedelic shoegaze act HOO (featuring Ian McCutcheon of Mojave 3 ) and the three-piece folk pastoral collective (Gymkhana). with Patch from The Sundays and Jason from Bennet) also join the series.
DJ sets so far have been confirmed by Richard Norris (The Grid) and Billy Campbell (Registrations of names), whereas Richard Norris will also read from White Rabbit's upcoming autobiography, “Strange Things Are Happening” on the Literary Stage.
Gates will open at noon with the fun starting at 1pm and finishing around 10pm.
