The Hard Quartet, the indie supergroup comprised of Stephen Malkmus, Emmett Kelly, Matt Sweeney, and Jim White, has released its debut single, “Earth Hater.” Additionally, the band has set dates for its first tour in fall 2024.
In a press release, The Hard Quartet’s sound is described as “familiar yet new rock ‘n’ roll, warm yet icy, melodic yet with a sphinx-like edge to its seductive, subtle enigmas.” With its catchy guitar riffs and surprisingly direct lyrics like “You should do unto others as you would have them do unto you,” “Earth Hater” delivers on that promise. Watch the Eyedress-directed music video below.
For now, The Hard Quartet has only revealed three shows for October in Los Angeles, New York, and London. Check out all the details below. Tickets go on sale Friday, August 2 at 10:00 a.m. local time via Ticket Master.
Although Malkmus is the most recognizable name in the group for his work with Pavement and the Jicks, each member of the band is very talented in their own way.
Kelly fronts The Cairo Gang and has worked with Bonnie “Prince” Billy and Ty Segall, while Sweeney has collaborated with artists including Johnny Cash and Adele. As for White, he has released his first solo album and projects with Dirty Three and another supergroup, Beings, in 2024 alone.
