In today's world, where authenticity often takes a backseat to social media manipulation, Wreckno's unapologetic acceptance of his identity has helped create a space for LGBTQ artists to thrive.
An outspoken advocate for LGBTQ rights, the EDM.com Class of 2022 star is going scorched earth, as she does every Pride Month, after releasing a new single, “Party Girl.”
Wreckno's boastful bars flow like honey on a spoon, providing the rhythmic intravenous drip for this slice of dancefloor euphoria. A Pride anthem through and through, the bold hip-house track will appear on a new EP this summer via the venerable Helix Records.
The triple-threat DJ, producer and rapper is now preparing to debut his own Pride event, “Wreckno's Big Gay Soirée,” in Denver. Scheduled for June 20, the summer party will feature performances by Wreckno, Kaleena Zanders, So Sus, Ava Sparks and a special guest, as well as drag performances by Aja and LaLa Ri of RuPaul's Drag Race.
Tickets on sale now. But before that, read on to discover the songs and artists that continue to inspire Wreckno, in his own words.
Brooke Candy – “Das Me”
Brooke Candy was the first artist I discovered who took homophobic slurs back and made them hard to relate to. This song sparked something in me when she was a teenager that said, “You can be a loud, proud queer badass without shame!”
Mykki Blanco — “Haze.Boogie.Life”
Mykki Blanco is another artist from my teenage years on Tumblr who really helped me shape what I wanted to convey as an artist. Mykki's sharp lyricism and wit always caught my attention, as well as her iconic fashion sense.
Ashnikko – “Working Bitch”
I discovered Ashnikko online just before she came out in 2020. I remember feeling so in love with the cadence of her voice and her sassy punchlines. She is all!
Ethel Cain – “Hard Times”
In the last year I have become absolutely obsessed with Ethel Cain. While you don't typically hear sad, beautiful, soft songs from the Wreckno project, the work of him and others who exist in that realm of music inspires me more than anything.
Lady Gaga – “Alice”
What can I say about Gaga? She is everything to me. Because of her I wanted to become an artist! I lost touch with the little monster in me while focusing on EDM for a long time. When she released her album chromatic, I found my way back. This song that opens the album reminded me of that teenager who was jumping around my room doing her choreography and she reminded me why I got into music. I love her so much!
FLETCHER – “Forever (SOPHIE Remix)”
SOPHIE is a huge inspiration to me when it comes to production. I have a photo of her hanging in my studio to remind me of the LGBTQ pioneers who came before me and who left such a special impact on music. I think about her every time I feel like I'm not good enough to make memorable music. We love you and miss you SOPHIE.
Moore Kismet and Pauline Herr – “You Should Run”
Moore Kismet is one of my favorite LGBTQ+ musical acts. Not only do they make incredible melodies, but they are a human angel. I'm happy to say we'll also be releasing a song at the end of Pride Month!
Da Killa Pastries – “Don Dada”
Cakes da Killa is another queer rapper that I grew up adoring. His fluidity, wit, cadence and style speak for themselves. I was on a track with him and Mija last year and it was a dream come true!
Chase Icon: “Like Me”
What can I say about Chase Icon? She's just that girl! I've been obsessed with her witty lyrics and her smooth, bright voice ever since she went from Twitter celebrity to pop babe. She's Chasing the Iconic SuperSonic!
Chapel Roan – “Femininomeno”
Last but not least is the IT GIRL of 2024, Chapel Roan! I heard their debut album for the first time earlier this year, and as soon as this song started, I was hooked. “Hit it like Rumpapapum, heat it like Papa John!” I was obsessed with that lyric! I would rap that. She is all. Superstar.
