The new Juan Gabriel Barbie is available for pre-order — and it's already sold out

A brand new Barbie he is in town. In its latest release, Mattel celebrates singer-songwriter and actor Juan Gabriel.

The Mexican superstar, who died in 2016, was a pioneer of mariachi and melodic ballad music. Gabriel's commemorative Barbie is another entry in Mattel's Signature Music Barbie line and comes in time for Mexican Heritage Month in September and October. Just days after becoming available for pre-order, the doll has already sold out at Target and has become Amazon's #1 best-selling new toy release.

The Juan Gabriel Barbie is available for pre-order now on Amazon and Walmart for $55 and will be released on October 14th. Be sure to act fast as pre-orders could sell out at Amazon and Walmart like they did at Target.

“The gold trim on Barbie doll's costume is inspired by this stylistic heritage,” Mattel said in a statement. “From a bolo tie choker to a microphone to help her sing the songs of 'El Divo de Juárez,' Barbie doll's good looks celebrate the nearly 4-decade career of a true music legend.”

The new Barbie's outfit is inspired by what Gabriel wore during his 1990 concert at El Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City. Gabriel used both music and fashion to celebrate Mexican culture and was usually seen rocking flamboyant mariachi costumes like this one.

Gabriel had several chart-topping songs including “Hasta Que Te Conoci” (“Until I Met You”), “Amor Eterno” (“Eternal Love”) and his smash hit “Querida” (“Dear “), which dominated the Mexican charts for an entire year.

Previous releases from the Barbie Signature Music line have included Gloria Estefan, Tina Turner and Stevie Nicks.
