Expected Game of Thrones The Jon Snow spinoff isn't going to happen, according to the actor who plays the beloved character.
ONE Game of Thrones spinoff The show project featuring Jon Snow is no longer in development by HBO, according to Kit Harrington, who played the role during the series' run. The British actor revealed the news during an interview promoting the crime thriller Blood for dustin which he has a leading role.
“I had never really talked about it because it was in development,” Harrington began. “I didn't want it to leak that it was being developed and I didn't want the thing to happen where people start theorizing, either get excited about it or hate the idea of it, when it might never happen. Because in development you look from every angle and see if it's worth it.” The show was scheduled to start airing in 2028 as per predictions.
He continued: “And currently, it's not. For now, it's off the table, because we all couldn't find the right story to tell that we were all excited enough about. So we decided to tool with it for now. There may be a time in the future when we go back to it, but for now no. It's shelf stable.” The news comes as House of the Dragon rreturns for season two and another prequel series, A Knight of the Seven Kingdoms, casting has reportedly begun with a 2025 release date.
The Jon Snow-centric spinoff first won in 2022, when a leak prompted series creator and writer George RR Martin to confirm that HBO had begun work on the show with writers and showrunners brought in by Harington. The show, tentatively titled Snow, it would start after the events ended Game of Thrones where Jon Snow killed Daenerys, his lover (and aunt).
“I think if you asked him, he'd feel like he got off lightly,” Harrington said while in a Game of Thrones assembly in December 2022 when asked about the fate of the warrior. “At the end of the show, when we find him in that cell, he's about to be beheaded and he wants to be. He's done. The fact that he goes to the Wall is the greatest gift and also the greatest curse.”
