The office It is being reassembled and will officially land on Peacock.
The new series is a “sister show” of sorts to the original NBC series, which aired from 2005 to 2013 and was adapted by Ricky Gervais and Stephen Merchant. The office (UNITED KINGDOM). The characters and setting will be completely new, but it will take place in the same universe, with the same “documentary team” of The office. USA Originals Office Developer Greg Daniels will lead the spin-off series, along with Nathan for you and How to with John Wilson producer Michael Koman.
While the American version of The office took place at the Dunder Mifflin Paper Company branch in Scranton, Pennsylvania, the new series will take place in a newspaper editorial office in the Midwest. The official tagline reads: “The documentary team that immortalized the Scranton branch of Dunder Mifflin is searching for a new subject when they discover a dying historic Midwestern newspaper and the editor attempts to revive it with volunteer reporters.”
The show will begin production in July. Domnhall Gleeson and Sabrina Impacciatore are the only two actors confirmed to appear in the cast, with more casting announcements to come. “More than ten years have passed since the final episode of The office It aired on NBC and the acclaimed comedy series continues to gain popularity and generate new generations of fans on Peacock,” NBCUniversal Entertainment president Lisa Katz wrote in a statement. “This new series set in the Dunder Mifflin universe introduces a new cast of characters in a fresh environment conducive to comedic storytelling: a newspaper.”
Greg Daniels previously teased a spinoff of The office last year, and stated that he was interested in treating it the way Star Wars treaty The Mandalorian – the same universe with different stories and characters. “I don't like to think of anything as a reset,” Daniels said. “Because I feel like we finished that story beautifully. The characters had closure. I would never want to remake the same show with a different cast, because I think we have the luckiest cast, the best cast on television, to do that show. So the idea of restarting is not of interest.”
