The Smile have cancelled their upcoming tour dates in August while guitarist Jonny Greenwood recovers from a serious infection that landed him in intensive care.
“A few days ago, Jonny became seriously ill with an infection which required emergency hospital treatment, some of it in intensive care. Thankfully, he is now out of danger and will soon be returning home,” according to a statement released by the band on Friday (July 12).
However, “the medical team in charge of Jonny’s care has ordered us to cancel all engagements until he has had time to fully recover. As a result, The Smile’s European tour in August is cancelled.”
The Smile recently completed a series of European shows that took place in June. The tour dates were held to promote the band's second album, Wall of eyeswhich was launched in January 2024.
