Quincy Homere and Jamar Hill killed Chinx in May 2015 as the rapper waited at a red light in Queens.
On Monday (August 12), Homer was condemned to 23 years in prison in Queens court.
“I would like to express my condolences to the family and anyone else affected by what happened here,” he said in a statement to the court. “I don't think there are words that can express the way I feel about what happened here.”
Chinx's widow, Janelli Caceres, also gave a statement: “I was told I had two minutes to say goodbye to him, holding his mother's hand, watching his lifeless body pray and cry to wake up,” she told the court . “A mother must bury her son. At 28 I was widowed. My children, who were 15, 11 and 4, are now without a father.”
Queens District Attorney Melinda Katz issued the following statement:
“Quincy Homere was sentenced today to 23 years in prison for the murder of Lionel Pickens Jr., a successful rapper, husband and father who was brutally murdered in 2015. Homere shot Pickens' car multiple times while he was stopped at a red light in Briarwood and then fled, leaving the young man dead. Nothing can undo what happened, but I hope today's sentence brings some comfort to Pickens' loved ones as they continue to grieve.”
Last month, Homere pleaded guilty to involuntary manslaughter. Co-defendant Jamar Hill's case is still pending as he is already incarcerated on an unrelated charge.
According to court documentsHomer and Hill were “chasing Chinx like an animal” over a phone argument at Rikers Island.
