Taylor Swift shot for a truly epic release a week before Department of Tormented Poets actually dropped, with the pop star surprising fans by releasing 31 new songs – as opposed to the previously confirmed 16 main and four bonus tracks – in the space of two hours on April 19.
The Jack Antonoff and Aaron Dessner-produced sprawling project had been in the works for about two years before it finally arrived, with the singer telling fans at a February tour that she'd been working on it since submitting the Billboard 200-top Midnight to her label sometime in 2022. The countdown with the most saved versions of Spotify
Before Tormented Poets was even released, Spotify's countdown page broke the streaming service's record for the most pre-saves in history. The countdown began on March 28, two weeks before the album's release date, inviting Swifties to watch as each second ticked by.
Spotify has also continually updated the tab with links to the pop star's merch, as well as cryptic videos of Swift typing out lyrics from the LP on a typewriter.

One week vinyl sales
Of Tormented Poets 1.5 million first week sales, 700,000 of those copies were vinyl. This breaks Swift's record for the biggest sales week for a vinyl album in the modern era or since Luminate began tracking data in 1991, surpassing 693,000 sales. 1989 (Taylor Edition) in the first week of 2023.
Ahead of its release, Tay announced four vinyl variants Tormented Poets — “The Manuscript,” “The Albatross,” “The Bolter,” and “The Black Dog” — each contain the 16 songs on the album's main tracklist plus a bonus track.

Not only did he Tormented Poets became Spotify's most streamed single-day album in history less than 12 hours after its release, it also became the first album on the platform to garner over 300 million streams in a single day ever.
The streaming service's previous one-day record holder was Beyoncé, whose Cowboy Carter garnered 300.41 million official on-demand streams in its first full week of release.
