This year's Miami Art Week brought tens of thousands of creatives to the city to experience a variety of innovative exhibitions from more than 1,200 galleries. One of the most innovative took place at the Alcova design exhibition, which featured a vinyl record embedded with real rocks from outer space.
The exhibition was presented at the Selina Gold Dust in Miami, which hostedEDM.comAt March's “Global Networking Event,” artists reimagined the property's motel rooms into their own custom gallery.
Titled “decades (in space)”, the vinyl record with embedded space rocks benefited dubbing, a nonprofit digital radio station. It was designed by multidisciplinary artist Dyan Jong and design researcher Rucker Manley. The “Galaxy Chairs” design team included Marijke Jorritsma, a UX designer currently working at NASA's Jet Propulsion Laboratory.

The area was transformed into a golden, interstellar-themed listening room, adorned with the same iridescent thermal wrap used on spacecraft. Inside, visitors could sit on specially designed “Galaxy Chairs”, which were assembled from the vinyl album packaging, to listen to the record.
Four speakers placed around the room helped create an immersive listening experience. The music included a curated selection of 10 songs from 20 different artists and limited edition vinyl copies could be purchased, including a special “space-making” kit that came with a “Galaxy Chair.”
