TI says he's retiring — at least from performing.
The King of the South and Young Dro joined the Beat's afternoon show “Rari at 2” hosted by Ferrari Simmons and BT, and the station's annual holiday Jingle Ball concert in Atlanta on December 19th was mentioned. TI headlines alongside Sexyy Red, T-Pain, Saweetie, The Kid Laroi, Khalid and Tinashe, but it may very well be his last appearance.
“I appreciate you offering me my last gig because I don't need the money anymore and I won't be playing,” he told the audience. “I don't want to do it anymore. … I don't want people paying me anymore to jump and sweat for their entertainment.”
Young Dro then comically added that he would take the concerts TI closes. “I'm going to take all of Tip's shows that he's not going to do. Doing them all,” the Polo Ralph Lauren enthusiast said with a laugh.
Ferrari then asked if he was going to “do” anything for another upcoming appearance, and Tip replied, “Of course, I'll answer the phone to tell them I won't be showing up.” He said, however, that he will appear again — but only on his terms.
TI and his wife Tameka “Tiny” Harris recently won a $71 million lawsuit claiming that toymaker MGA stole the design of a line of “OMG” toy dolls from their real-life teen pop group OMG Girlz. The now-defunct pop group was formed by Tiny and featured her daughter Zonnique “Star” Pullins. So maybe that has something to do with his decision.
As for rap, he might retire from that soon too. In October of last year, after being asked what fans can expect musically from the Atlanta rap legend, he told the We at the Miami Podcast that he plans to release a double album titled Kill the King and Kiss the King and it will be his last album. He also mentioned that one of the first singles was going to be a song with NBA YoungBoy. This track is called “LLOGCLAY” and dropped earlier this year in May.
