Tiësto has pulled out of his upcoming performance at Super Bowl LVIII, the DJ announced Thursday.
The Dutch dance music icon attributed the cancellation to a “personal family emergency” but refrained from revealing details. He was about to become the first game DJ in Super Bowl history.
“My team and I have been preparing something really special for months, but a personal and family emergency forces me to return home on Sunday morning,” Tiësto wrote in a post on X. “It was a difficult decision to miss the game, “but family always comes first.”
Portions of Tiësto's performance were scheduled to air on CBS's Super Bowl LVIII broadcast and live on its social media channels. It is clear at this point if he will be replaced by another DJ.
Super Bowl LVIII is scheduled for February 11 at Allegiant Stadium between the Kansas City Chiefs and the San Francisco 49ers. The Niners are 1.5-point favorites at the time of this writing, according to ESPN.
